Power Outages

For Electrical Emergencies (like downed lines on top of cars or homes): Call 911

Report a Power Outage: 919-553-1530

We have a system that automatically alerts us to outages, but you can call us to make us aware of the location of your outage. Please be aware that we may not be able to give you specific answers about why an outage occurred or when power will be restored. There are many factors involved in repairing an outage, but we will work as diligently and quickly as safely possible to get power restored. After-hours calls will be transferred to 911 so that Clayton Public Power crews can be alerted.

Planned Power Outages

JocoAlerts Emergency Notification SystemOccasionally, the Town of Clayton will schedule a necessary "Planned Power Outage" in order to perform maintenance and equipment upgrades to the electrical system. Because we are aware of how inconvenient power outages can be, we make every effort to keep these outages as brief as possible. We also try to make every attempt to notify our customers in advance by leaving door hangers for all those affected as well as utilizing the JOCOAlerts notification system.

One of the best tools to get you vital public safety information quickly, whether it's a warning about an approaching hurricane, a power outage, a boil water advisory, or other emergency, is something called JOCOAlerts. The system, managed though Johnston County, allows all residents and businesses to receive a phone call, text or email alert when important or potentially urgent public safety or service-related events happen. This service is absolutely free! Please make sure you are signed up! All information is kept confidential and you won't be pestered with nuisance call. Alerts are only made regarding legitimate public safety or public service matters. Sign up now! Please note, the previously used CodeRED system is being phased out, and you must sign up for JOCOAlerts if you'd like to continue receiving alerts - your contact information will not be transferred automatically to JOCOAlerts when Johnston County stops using CodeRED in mid-July 2017.

Medical Seal List Request

If you have a medical need that requires constant electricity, please contact Customer Service at 919-553-5002 and request to be placed on the Medical Seal List. This will result in your power being among the first restored should we have a power outage, and will also ensure your power is never intentionally disconnected. You will need to complete this form (PDF).
