At 6:26 pm Sunday night (11-28-10), Clayton Police were called to investigate a report of a common law robbery in the parking lot at Town Centre Boulevard.  The victim, Steven W. Wheltle (age 53) of Four Oaks, NC is employed by H&L Enterprises of 849 Town Centre Blvd in Clayton.  He reported that after he removed a bag / soft case from his car in the parking lot, an unknown black male suspect tried to grab the bag from him.  Mr. Wheltle said he resisted, but the suspect hit him in the face and fled with the bag, running to a dark color passenger vehicle before leaving the scene.

The bag contained an undisclosed sum of cash receipts from other H&L Enterprises businesses located in Raleigh, NC.  The victim did not seek immediate medical attention, and a search of the area failed to locate the suspect or vehicle.  Clayton detectives are investigating further.
