Fires Intentionally Set to Houses Under Construction

While patrolling Glen Laurel Road on Monday, January 18, 2009, Clayton Police Officer M. Phillips discovered a structure fire in the Summerlyn subdivision at 6:04 AM.  The Clayton Fire Department was summoned and arrived to find a house under construction at 102 Rolling Meadows Drive on fire with flames showing through the roof.  The Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

An adjacent house under construction at 116 Rolling Meadows Drive was found to have been entered also, and attempts to set a fire inside that building were discovered.  Both were homes under construction, and are owned and built by Savvy Homes of 630 Creedmoor Road in Raleigh.  Damage to the structure at 102 Rolling Meadows was significant, while the other house had only minor damage.

The Clayton Police Department is investigating the fires which appear to have been set intentionally.  Detective P.D. Millar is leading the investigation with assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation and the Clayton Fire Marshal.

Anyone that may have seen any suspicious vehicles or persons in the area between 4:30 to 6:00 am on Monday (or have any information about the fire) is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611 or Clayton Crime Stoppers at 919-359-TIPZ (8479).  A reward is available for confidential information that leads to an arrest.
