The Clayton Police Department is pleased to announce that Officer Ron Freeman has been named the department’s Officer of the Year for 2010. The Officer of the Year honor is awarded annually by the department based on a nomination procedure and selection process that recognizes responsible service to the Town and dedication to the agency and the greater Clayton community. Clayton’s Officer of the Year will represent the department in various law enforcement recognition and appreciation events over the year by a number of clubs, churches, etc.

Ron is a veteran of the United States Navy -  and upon completing his military service he decided to become a law enforcement officer. After graduating from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Wayne Community College in 1999, Officer Freeman served with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office for 4 years, before joining the Clayton Police Department. He has been with Clayton PD for the past 7 years and has served in the Patrol and Special Operations Divisions, where he is currently assigned to the Community Action Team (CAT).
His selection is based in part upon his work planning and executing the Clayton's annual National Night Out which have been great success. Officer Freeman also worked enthusiastically to help initiate the Clayton Crime Stoppers program and assisted the local chapter of the FOP in providing needy school children with backpacks and school supplies; Ron is on the board of directors for the Johnston County Fraternal Order of Police - Lodge 88.Â
The commitment that Officer Freeman has shown to the community and the quality work of this 11-year veteran officer has earned him the police department’s recognition.
